The images of the written words

"As children, we were all enchanted by the colorful figures that illustrated the few words written in our first books. But it is enough to leaf through a book, a magazine or a newspaper to realize that, in a perhaps less exciting way, the illustrations still very often accompany and complete our reading. Defining what an illustration is is not as simple as it may seem at first sight. However, we can stick to what the very few scholars in the sector say: an illustration is an image created by an author to be reproduced by print in many copies, with the aim of better clarifying the meaning of a text, or decorating it."
